documentary record

01 / Matter and scope

Illustrative investor: Alex Example
Purpose: Preparation of the foreign documentary record for a contemplated U.S. business investment.
Source under review: A property sale and subsequent transfer of the proceeds.
Boundary: Documentary consistency and missing evidence. U.S. legal, tax, immigration, and sanctions questions are reserved for qualified counsel.

02 / Executive factual summary

The fictional sale agreement records a sale price of $275,000. A fictional bank statement records an incoming payment of $270,000 and a subsequent transfer of $250,000 to another account in the investor’s name. The $5,000 difference between the contract price and the initial receipt is not explained by the assumed records.

The record would remain incomplete until the initial acquisition of the property, the difference in amounts, and the receipt of the onward transfer were adequately documented.

03 / Ownership and transfer outline

Alex ExampleSeller named in the fictional agreement
Account AFictional receipt: $270,000
Account BFictional transfer: $250,000; receipt unresolved

No intermediary entity is assumed in this example. A real matter would use the ownership and account records actually provided.

E-02Account A statementReceipt, date and account holderDoes not explain the contract-to-receipt difference
E-03Transfer instructionProposed beneficiary and transfer amountDoes not independently establish completed receipt

06 / Outstanding documents and questions

  1. Obtain the property’s acquisition records and evidence of the funds used for its acquisition.
  2. Obtain a closing statement or other records explaining the $5,000 difference. Do not assume fees without evidence.
  3. Obtain the receiving account statement, account-holder identification, and transfer reference to reconcile the onward payment.
  4. Confirm the intended recipient’s documentary requirements with counsel. Identify any translation or additional verification needs.

07 / Limitations and counsel handover

A completed assignment would identify the records actually reviewed, relevant dates, agreed verification steps, factual findings, unresolved discrepancies, and the boundaries of the work. Client explanations would be distinguished from independently supported facts.

The existence of a coherent narrative does not establish the lawfulness of a transaction or authenticate its underlying records. Appropriate counsel and receiving institutions make their own determinations.
